Create Project
Kate has composed music for different types of music including folk, and also for Classical Quartets. This piece was written when working on composition project set up by Folkworks in The Sage Gateshead in 2011 called Create. It is called "Wing'd Entropy", performed live by the Northern Sinfonia Quartet with Kate Young.
Distil Showcase
Vata is a piece composed for String Quartet and voice. Performed by McFall's Chamber in Stirling Tolbooth May 2012. This composition is a result of a project called 'Distil' run in Scotland by Simon Thoumire and David Francis. It is a project funded by the PRS Foundation and Creative Scotland offering opportunities to professional traditional musicians wishing to acquire advanced music skills. Listen to Vata here.
Electronics Workshop with McFalls
In February 2013, I was chosen to participate in a session where the hugely diverse Edinburgh-based string quartet, Mr McFall's Chamber played my piece which I composed for them, Tectonic Bath. I had guidance from Pippa Murphy and Ben Seal while I learned how to electronically manipulate the music. You can read my blog and listen to the recording of the session here.
